What Came First, The Chicken or The Text?
For a few days now, I have had this craving for a sandwich from Chick-fil-A. Today I finally gave in and treated myself. When I went to pay, I noticed a sign at the register advertising their text alert club. And that’s when it occurred to me; I HAD a coupon on my phone that I had received via text just a few days ago. No wonder I’ve been craving them! So, that got me to thinking…what came first, the chicken or the text?
Chick-fil-A was one restaurant that jumped on the text message marketing bandwagon early. Believe it or not, this chain has been doing it since 2009. Restaurants, like many businesses, are able to promote their text message campaigns for little to no money. How? In addition to the signage in the store, calls to action can be placed on Facebook Fan pages and added to an existing website. Chick-fil-A, for example, has the innovative option to join their “text insiders” club right on their website, and spells out how many text messages customers will receive and give instructions on how to opt out.
So, my business minded friends, I ask you what comes first, your customers or your marketing? To learn more about how you can implement a text message marketing campaign contact TXTin at www.txtin.com, or call 1-877-TXTIN-77.

“What comes first, your customers or your marketing?”
The customers ARE the marketing. Without them, you’re not reaching anyone.
Sandra,
I think what they’re saying is that you have to be effective in your marketing and use affordable solutions so you can reach new customers at a low cost. The Chic-Fil-A example is a good one for this.
It makes sense that a brand like Chic-fil-A would get right on this. A LOT of people eat at their restaurants, multiple times a day even. I’m sure they see some great returns with promotions that give loyal customers coupons.
Great example here. I have another one. I’m in best buy all the time because I love electronics, and they started sending offers to my phone. I’ve saved hundreds and I probably shop there even more often than before!
I hope the offers aren’t from GeekSquad support. Those guys don’t know anything about fixing a computer. Ugh.
The food industry is really the best one for taking advantage of mobile marketing for sure! I wish I wouldn’t be able to say this, but the truth is many people think with their stomachs and not their brains. I would probably sign up for a text message from a company if I was getting special coupons to their restaurant for sure. What might make this even better and more profitable for a company is the fact that people will see the message, and likely forget about it by the time they go to visit the restaurant during the week later. You were lucky to remember that you had a coupon, but the thing about coupons is you have to actually show them to the cashier to prove you have one. It is really advertising in it’s finest when only so many customers are taking advantage of using the coupons. Driving people in the door who are going to pay full price is definitely a great tactic when it comes to advertising and marketing!
