Mobile Spam Violations by Companies such as Burger King, Timberland, and 20th Century Fox
We at TXTin take the regulations regarding text messages very seriously, and continually strive to educate our customers. Anyone engaging in a mobile marketing campaign needs to ensure that they are fully aware of the guidelines set forth by the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association). Violation can results in a fine of $500 per text from the FCC.
Recently, our friends at Tatango conducted an extensive survey of 500 consumers, and they found that 68% of the US population is affected by text message spam. Some of their other findings include:
- More people say that they have received spam text messages (68%) than eat breakfast (60%)
- Women under the age of 24 are most likely to receive a spam message
- 84% of people under the age of 17 have received a spam text message
- 12% of Americans don’t have text messaging plans, which results in charges as high as $.20 per text

They should pay for it. All of us don’t want to get spam messages, it’s a total wrecked. I bet 500 bucks will totally kick those marketing spams away.
I appreciate that MMA done actions about marketing spams. It doesn’t even make sense why some companies are engaged to this. I mean they create big bucks, so why hell have mobile spams, its disturbing
This was really useful information for sure! One reason I have been very leary to giving out my cell phone number and access to texting me is because I do not want to be spammed all of the time. There is a very thin line between being useful and being annoying (or worse!) when it comes to text messages coming from businesses. I am happy to see that legislation is in place that critically injures companies who violate the right to not be spammed. Now, if only we can get some better legislation to stop spam on the internet. Spam on the internet is what I hope text message spam does not turn into. On the whole, spam is not useful for very much except annoying consumers and eventually making them disinterested in your business as a whole.
